The Balchins case illustrates everything that's wrong with Ombudsmen

During 1991, wrongly and without any prudent investigation, the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) rejected the Balchin's complaint. The Parliamentary and Health Service (PHSO) then compounded this injustice by rejecting their complaint a further three times over the next decade.

During the numerous judicial reviews that followed, the PHSO was repeatedly told by Judges that their decisions were legally flawed. Flying in the face of this damning criticism the PHSO continued to stand by their original perverse decision.

It was only when their perverse decision started to become the subject of public scrutiny did they decided to do something about it and gave the Balchins the justice they deserved. Historic events clearly show that this change of heart was not motivated by any sense of shame about what they had done but for purely selfish reasons.

Furthermore, what good is a judicial review if Ombudsmen can just reiterate their original decision? The aim of this new website is to ensure that their perverse decisions are the subject of public scrutiny at the outset and nobody has to suffer the kind of injustice the Balchins had to suffer.

Even when the Ombudsmen were finally forced to give the Balchins the justice they deserved they still tried to orchestrate events to hide the fact that they were responsible for the extra 15 years of suffering the Balchins had to endure. This demonstrates that they were more concerned with sweeping their perverse decisions under the carpet than resolving the problems for the benefit of the Balchins.
